In April EnSol Tech USA exhibited at Modex 2018, a major annual manufacturing and supply chain equipment show that took place in Atlanta, GA. At the show we unveiled our new patented state-of-the-art active battery management system (BMS) EnSol Battery Equalizer (EnSol BE) and presented EnSol lithium power solutions. EnSol BE increases available capacity of lithium batteries by 10-15% and extends battery life by 50% by constantly channeling charge from cells with higher capacity to those with lower capacity. All batteries with EnSol BE are equipped with cellular communication feature that allows transferring battery usage data to EnSol Cloud where it is stored and analyzed.
Besides enjoying the opportunity to catch up with partners at Modex 2018 and demonstrate EnSol lithium solutions to the professional community we observed some interesting trends that we’d like to share:
The material handling industry is steadily giving more credit to lithiumpower. This year we saw that more and more vendors are stepping into the lithium battery business compared to previous years. Alternative technologies like fuel cells are likely to step aside and give their way to lithium. There is already enough data gathered by warehouse operators who’ve been powering their forklifts by lithium batteries to make conclusions that switching to lithium allows to substantially reduce operational costs.
Lithium batteries vendors bet on different chemistries and the competition between chemistries is getting very interesting. LFP technology (lithium iron phosphate) appears to stay in stable demand. Another technology, NMC (nickel magnesium cobalt) was also represented at the show.
While automating the movement of materials within manufacturing is nothing new, we see more and more AGV (automated guided vehicles) vendors servicing the materials handling industry emerge, and these machines are mostly powered by lithium, as well as other robotics-based mechanisms.
Telematics and IoT are also huge trends in the industry. While warehouse operators are still figuring out how to make sense of the exponential growth of data, different telematics solutions offer wide range of measurements from forklift operator usage to battery performance. Thus, the patented EnSol BE has an embedded SIM card that transfers information about the state of the battery and the truck to the EnSol Cloud.
Customers are expecting extended warranties on batteries. Nowadays the average warranty on batteries is 5 years, and we see that customers treat warranty very seriously.
The materials handling industry is embracing new technologies as soon as they prove their business value. We are witnessing the incredible increase of productivity, warehouse operations are getting optimized and transformed as never before, battery life span increases, new features such as telematics, IoT and cloud-based solutions are being added. All this became possible thanks to the emergence of active BMS and especially its ability to restore the full cells capacities and reduce down time associated with disabled cells.
First Ensol partner conference
The first EnSol partner conference took place in Moscow on August 18-19th, 2017.
This event gathered the largest distributors of material handling and cleaning equipment, vendors, and major EnSol customers.
EnSol COO Marat Khabibullin and Nikita Khanzadeev, the head of R&D department talked about operational processes and technologies of the company. The company CTO, Michael Novikov told about the direction in which EnSol leads its product development and what technical innovations to expect in the near future.
Also, a visit to the production facility was organized, where the guests could witness firsthand the company's manufacturing process.
